About the Job

The Investor Accounting Manager’s main role is to oversee note owner (investor) reporting, remittance, and reconciliation processes for our portfolio while ensuring compliance with note owner guidelines and maintaining accurate financial records. The Investor Accounting Manager will play a pivotal role in developing, streamlining, and optimizing reporting and operational processes. The position involves fostering strong relationships with internal and external partners to enhance collaboration and ensure alignment with organizational goals.  This role does not currently include supervisory responsibilities; however, it offers an opportunity to build the foundation of our investor accounting department and develop a team as we grow. 

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for note buyers regarding reporting, remittance, and financial matters, fostering strong external partnerships. 

  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting and remittance to all note owners, meeting contractual and regulatory requirements. 

  • Perform reconciliations of monthly note owner statements, custodial accounts, and servicing system updates, resolving discrepancies and exceptions promptly. 

  • Monitor and address unreconciled items, exceptions, and cash flow anomalies. 

  • Lead cross-functional collaboration with accounting, operations, and other internal teams to resolve reconciling items within specified timelines. 

  • Prepare and deliver annual covenant statements to note owners, adhering to contract requirements. 

  • Drive process improvements by evaluating and implementing technology solutions to streamline investor accounting processes and enhance data accuracy. 

  • Prepare for and support internal and external audits, including investor, regulatory, and corporate audits, ensuring the availability and accuracy of required documentation. 

  • Ensure adherence to all servicing agreements, regulatory requirements, and company policies. 

  • Provide senior management with detailed reporting and analysis to support decision-making and strategic planning. 

  • Create, maintain, and enforce up-to-date investor accounting policies and procedures. 

  • Proactively identify operational challenges and work across departments to develop and implement process improvements. 

  • Perform servicing system updates to reflect accurate note owner data and other critical loan sale/transfer details. 

  • Provide back up support for our loan servicing accounting team for daily tasks such as cash reconciliations, funds transfers, account balancing, and AP functions. 

  • Perform other duties as assigned by management to support department and organizational objectives. 

Skills and Attributes

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance or equivalent work experience required.  

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in investor accounting, cash management, and mortgage servicing. 

  • Prior management or team lead experience a plus. 

  • Proficiency with investor accounting principles, concepts, remitting calendars, and industry standards. 

  • Advanced Excel skills with the ability to write logical, reference, date & time, and statistical and data functions. Ability to create pivot tables, charts, and visualizations.  

  • The ability to work independently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. 

  • Organized and detail oriented, can manage multiple priorities, strong sense of urgency and follow through. 

  • Sound judgment, ability to think critically. 

  • Ability to communicate and interpret complex information effectively in both verbal and written forms. 

  • Proven experience leading end-to-end Investor Accounting operations & managing multiple portfolios. 

  • Ability to have a cross-functional impact across the servicing team. 

  • A willingness to hustle, learn, and adapt quickly to working in a fast-paced, fluid environment. 

  • Excellent leadership skills to direct, guide, and motivate a growing service operation. 

  • Commitment to building relationships with vendors, team members and investors
